Mary Schina

Mary Schina was born in Serres. She studied Engraving at the Athens School of Fine Arts as a student of K. Grammatopoulos and Typography and Book Art with teacher G. Papadakis. She continued her studies in Lithography at the École Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and in 1996 was a visiting artist at New York University in the printmaking department. She has participated in international engraving seminars and today she is an Assistant Professor of Engraving at the Athens School of Fine Arts. She has presented 20 solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. A large-scale woodcut can be found at the entrance of the Volos Town Hall. Mary Schina draws her subjects from the Greek countryside and her love for the sea. Characteristic elements of her work are the emphasis on design, the purity of details, poetic colors, soft tones and geometric simplicity.
